Do You Want to Increase Your Income but You Don’t Know Where to Start?

Are you looking for ways to increase your income even amid this pandemic?

If yes, then you’re in the right place!

Here are Beyond Small Talk guests Vic and Avelynn Garcia to share with you 3 simple yet significant ways to help you learn more and earn more during this crisis.

1. Know God’s plan for your life

The well-known Jeremiah 29:11 verse says that God knows His plans for you, and His plans for you are good. But, do you know exactly what those plans are?

Knowing God’s plans and purpose for your life will help you realize His will for your finances. And how would you do that? By calling unto God – as told by the succeeding verses:

“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:12-13 NIV)

Instead of calling the Lord, we tend to call our friends or someone who would lend us money. God becomes our last resort,” says Avelynnemphasizing the importance of seeking God first before venturing into any business.

Seek God and ask Him what venture you must take, when, where, and how you can take it.

2. Pray with all your heart

You don’t know what to do? Tell God. You have no idea how you would earn money? Tell God and ask Him for wisdom.

If you are wondering whether you should get a new job, put up a new business, or take another sideline – here’s the good news: God knows which path is best for you.

So before you plan your next step, Vic suggests that you pray with all your heart and ask, “God, can You tell me what You know so that I could do Your will?” He added, “With the limited time and resources that we have, we cannot afford to guess and commit many mistakes.

3Do not forget to give tithes and offering

During a financial crisis, it might be extra challenging to let go of any peso. Yet according to Avelynn“Most of the time, you go broke because you do not give to God.

When you allow God to intervene in your finances, He will surely bless your obedience. After all, all things work together for good to those who love God, isn’t? That is the same promise Malachi 3:10 brings:

“‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

Are you asking God for wisdom about your finances?

The One with the Pandemic Friends: 5 Tips to Keep Healthy Friendships Right Now!

So, no one told you that ‘pandemic life’ was gonna be this way.

If only all friendships could play out like the ones in sitcoms! You all live next door to each other, you can spend plenty of time together while drinking coffee and having long, intimate conversations.

Sadly, we don’t live in a sitcom. In real life, keeping friendships can require a lot of work – even more so during the pandemic.

No worries! Here are some tips that can help you deepen your relationships and keep healthy friendships during the pandemic:

The One with the Pandemic Friends: 5 Tips to Keep Healthy Friendships Right Now!

The one where you reach out

So, your friends are not reaching out to you, and you feel that they have abandoned you?

Now is not the time to test your friends! Everyone’s going through something, and it is best to extend grace during these trying times. Also, it wouldn’t hurt if you’re the first one to reach out and ask how your friends are holding up.

Shoot them a message, initiate a video call, and work hard to try to see them – while maintaining safety measures. Be present, says The Mental Health Foundation. You would be amazed how your simple gesture can make a huge impact on your friendship.

The One with the Pandemic Friends: 5 Tips to Keep Healthy Friendships Right Now!

The one where you ask questions and actively listen

Now that you’ve gotten in touch with your friends, what do you talk about? Break the ice! Ask questions!

Ask them how they are doing in their job or online classes, how they’re coping with the new normal, then let them fill you in. Asking friends how they feel and actively listening to their response are special moves.

Likewise, a big key to friendship is self-disclosure, says Psychology professor Tracy Gleason, so show that you can also be open and vulnerable around your friends.

The One with the Pandemic Friends: 5 Tips to Keep Healthy Friendships Right Now!

The one where you accept changes in your friendships

One thing you might notice as you talk with your friends is that many things changed in their life, especially during the pandemic.

Pandemic or not, change is natural. Life happens. People outgrow some things they used to value while trying to cope with the new normal. They can make decisions even if they don’t align with your beliefs anymore. They can even make new friends.

Try not to focus on the differences you now have with each other. Instead, focus on your shared experiences. Choose to see these changes through the lens of acceptance and love.

The One with the Pandemic Friends: 5 Tips to Keep Healthy Friendships Right Now!

The one where you celebrate milestones

Do you rarely get a chance to see your friend?

Then special events like birthdays, weddings, or graduations can be perfect opportunities to reconnect, catch up, and celebrate! Marking these significant life changes is important, PsychCentral affirms.

Most people get life updates about their friends from social media, but the details and the big and small talks that make up your friendships can only be shared through one-on-one interactions. It’s also a chance to try something new together like a zoom celebration or stream movies virtually.

The One with the Pandemic Friends: 5 Tips to Keep Healthy Friendships Right Now!

The one where you pray for your friends

The pandemic is a universal experience, but it is also an individual experience. It has dramatically affected everyone – so everyone could use some encouragement – including your friends.

Pray for and with your friend. Ask them if they have prayer requests, and actually pray for them then and there. Allow God to comfort, protect, and direct your friends’ paths.

Lastly, ask God to strengthen your friendship and keep it healthy, as both of you dwell in His constant love.

“Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other… Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.” (Romans 12:10-12 NLT)

5 Inspiring Songs to Get You through the New Normal

What keeps you grounded during the pandemic?

If music brings you relief from the worry and stress these days, you are not alone.

The COVID-19 pandemic may have changed many aspects of our lives, but it didn’t take away the Filipinos’ love for music. If anything, more people have turned to music to find hope and comfort when times are challenging.

And when you find yourself feeling a bit down, here are 5 inspiring songs that will help you get through the blues, the new normal, and beyond:

Feeling hopeless? Listen to…

Kumapit — Yeng Constantino

“Kumapit ka

‘Di ka nag-iisa

‘Di mo man nakikita

Nandiyan S’ya sa ‘yo, sa iyong tabi.”

Sad? Stressed out? Scared about the future? Let OPM icon Yeng Constantino assure you that your pandemic blues are valid and it’s okay to be honest about them.

Kumapit is a solid reminder that God understands your worries, fears, and even anger during difficult seasons in life. When you feel hopeless, know that you can always cry out to God. Hold on to God’s hope and His hope will hold on to you.

Feeling tired? Listen to…

Magpahinga — Ben&Ben

“Ang sabi mo, “Dito ka lang sa ‘kin

Magpahinga muna, lalabanan din

Mga dambuhalang ‘di maubos na problema

Malapit na, pero ‘di rin kasalanang magpahinga.”

If you feel you  have been fighting and have been too strong for far too long, let Magpahinga assure you that it is okay to  rest and let your guard down.

Paired with a heart-tugging music video, folk pop band Ben&Ben sings about the importance of allowing yourself to breathe – and cry if you must. So take a deep breath, quiet your mind, and rest your weary heart.

Feeling lost and uncertain? Listen to…

It’s Okay — Clara Benin

“I cannot unsee what’s in front of me

Oh it’s all in front of me

Is it okay if I close my eyes? Is it okay if I take my time?

Is it okay if I close my eyes? Is it okay if I take my time?

Just for a little while, just for a little while.”

Tired of the alarming news you see on TV? Fed up with the negativity on your social media feed?

Rid yourself of the toxicity and listen to It’s Okay. Clara Benin has created a relatable, little hymn that will soothe your heart and ears. Take this time to close your eyes and breathe. Reflect on life – the good, the bad, and everything in between.

Feeling worried? Listen to…

Ikako — SB19

“O, sigurado, babangon tayo

Kaya’ng lahat, ikaw at ako

‘Wag kang susuko

Magkasama tayo

Hanggang sa dulo

Ikaw at ako.”

Internationally acclaimed boyband SB19 brings a quarantine anthem that conveys a hopeful message: When troubles seem overwhelming, you have the power to win any struggle.

Ikako, a portmanteau of the words ikaw at ako (you and I), is a wonderful reminder that as long as we are together, Pinoys can get through anything. Its cheerful music video shows the frontliners and the band members cooped up in their own homes – hopeful that the sun will shine again.

Feeling hurt? Listen to…

Maghihilom — JC Ronato

“Maghihilom din

Sa sakit at pagkabigo

Maghihilom din

Sa lahat ng dinaramdam ko

Maghihilom din

Sa aking paglapit Sa’yo

Maghihilom din ang aking puso.”

Baguio-based singer-songwriter JC Ronato has created a perfect hymn for people who are struggling, in pain, and in need of healing.

If you are looking for a breather, Maghihilom hits close to home as it acknowledges the tears and fears you may be enduring right now. A few beats after, JC delivers an impactful message: There is a loving God who can heal you. There is hope and light after all.

Stream Maghihilom on July 30 on Spotify, Apple, Deezer, and YouTube. Follow Reverb Worship PH on FacebookInstagram, and YouTube for more updates.

5 Things Parents Can Do to Support their Child’s Gifts and Talents

What is your child good at?

How do you help them nurture their gifts and talents?

Parents, more than just having your own hopes and dreams for your child, it is important to encourage them to follow their own dreams and help nurture their talents.

If you are wondering how you could support your child’s pursuit of their dreams, Papuri! artist and Beyond Small Talk guest Rommel Guevara shares 5 things that can help you bring out your child’s best:

1. Be motivated by love

Are you pushing your child to excel in areas that they are not genuinely interested in?

It is understandable why many parents would want to have a say in their child’s life. They want their children to succeed. However, this practice can do more harm than good.

Dr. Harold S. Koplewicz of Child Mind Institute says that pushing kids to do things they don’t like can lead to anxiety disorder or learning disability.

Perhaps, it is time to examine your own motivations for pushing your child in a certain direction. When you want to support your child’s best interest, it is always best to be motivated by love.

2. Let them know that you support their dreams

Does your child know that you’ve got their back?

Discover your child’s gift and interests, and intentionally show your support!

“When our daughter was born, we prayed to support her dreams. We do not want to pressure her into doing ministry work, just because her parents are in the ministry. We let her discover her passions as she grows up,” Rommel said.

3. Don’t withhold discipline

It is good to give your child the freedom to choose their own path. Likewise, parents are called to guide their children (Proverbs 22:6). Fantastic parents are those who learn how to strike a balance between freedom and discipline.

Rommel shared, “We should support our children, but that doesn’t mean tolerating them when they are doing the wrong things. Love and support come with discipline.”

Remember, you can show your love and support by setting boundaries.

4. Support their talents and interests

What makes your child unique?

Sometimes, you need to step out of your comfort zone to help your child explore their gifts and talents.

Encouraging them through words is great! But there are also times when you need to show your support by providing them the tools, materials, and supplies that will further nurture their talents.

Simply put, your wallet will be involved – which leads us to point number 5.

5. Provide financial support

To Rommel, moral support is wonderful, but it is better if parents can also support their children’s interests financially.

So, if the budget allows, do not hesitate to bless your child with the equipment and materials they need. After all, you are investing in the life of your loved one!

But what if the budget is limited?

Parents, it is best to rely on your limitless God.

“Thankfully, God only entrusted our children to us. Our children’s real Father is in heaven,” Rommel said. “So, when it comes to the financial needs of our daughter, we ask God for provision. He will supply the needs of our children.”

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19 ESV)

6 Simple Health and Wellness Tips for Fathers – Beyond Small Talk

Raising a family takes a whole lot of effort and energy.

Fathers who focus on providing for the family are often preoccupied with work, marriage, sending kids to school, and making sure that there is food on the table. Oftentimes, self-care is the last priority of dads — if it’s even included on the list.

Dads, don’t forget that God cares about your physical health too.

Reminder: when you take good care of yourself, you are in a better position to take good care of your loved ones.

So here is coach, motivational speaker, and Beyond Small Talk host LA Mumar who shares 6 simple health tips for busy fathers like you:

Tip #1: Seek help from mentors

Do you want to live a healthy lifestyle, but don’t know where to start?

Seek advice from family members, friends, and health experts. Look for mentors who can teach you the proper way of eating and exercising. Look for people who can encourage you to be the healthiest you.

Tip #2: Always go back to your vision

List down the goals you wish to achieve and do your best to stick to it. For LA, being healthy and fit enable him to take good care of his family and bond with them.

“It is important to have a vision. I always need to go back to the vision of having a healthy lifestyle – for God, for my family, and for my job so I can do it properly,” he shared.

Tip #3: Practice self-discipline

Mastering self-discipline is key to good health!

In the article “Self-Discipline: Persisting Until You Reach Your Goals,” Mind Tools shared tips for developing self-discipline. You must choose a goal, find your motivation, identify obstacles, replace old habits, and monitor your progress.

Tip #4: Make small steps toward your goal

Eat right. Drink lots of water. Get enough sleep. It all sounds simple, right?

These seemingly simple things can make or break your overall health. It’s true that the small things make the biggest difference!

As LA puts it, “When we think of these things, we think, ‘Do they really have a purpose?’ But, when we combine all these, they make a world of difference.”

Tip #5: Maximize your current space

Got no room to exercise? Even when you are stuck at home, you can do simple exercise routines! You only need a small space and the willingness to do it.

As a basketball coach, LA believes that if there is a will to stay physically active, there is a way.

“Some people in my team do not have spacious homes, but they find ways to exercise. Your determination is important. Even if you have a small space, there are many ways to exercise,” he said.

Tip #6: Search for workout ideas online

If you are worried about your safety and your budget, you don’t have to enroll in a fancy gym.

Stay healthy and practical with the help of the internet! With just one click, you can find thousands of free exercise routines and workout videos — no equipment needed.

“Body exercises are good, and that’s what we do in our team. With various ways to exercise and our access to internet, our limited budget cannot limit us.” He continued, “As we keep on pursuing and plowing in, eventually, we will see the fruits of our efforts. We can do this!”

Yeng Constantino’s Latest Single “Kumapit” will Inspire You to Hold on to God during Hard Times

Yeng Constantino’s Latest Single “Kumapit” will Inspire You to Hold on to God during Hard Times

Singer-songwriter Yeng Constantino is back with her newest song titled, “Kumapit.” The single which hopes to reassure Filipinos about the hope found in God amidst the pandemic is hitting the airwaves this Friday, June 11.

In Kumapit, Yeng sings about how God understands our worries, fears, and even anger during difficult seasons in life. The song is a solid reminder that we are never alone in our battles and that we can always hold on to God.

Yeng Constantino’s Latest Single “Kumapit” will Inspire You to Hold on to God during Hard Times

“This song is for people who are struggling with their faith and struggling to see hope. I pray that as they hear this song, they will feel God’s presence even more. There are things in this world that we don’t understand but one thing remains: God is good. And we have to hold on to that,” Yeng said in vernacular.

The OPM icon penned the song by drawing inspiration from the raw feelings she, her loved ones, and other people experienced, revealing that she, too, struggled with anxiety and depression when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country.

“I struggled with my mental health during the pandemic. It’s my first time to share this, but I undergo therapy for my depression. The pandemic increased my anxiety, sadness, and uncertainty.”

In these uncertain times, Yeng rediscovered that she can hold on to God and find hope, comfort, and strength – a beautiful revelation that can be heard in her latest single, Kumapit.

“My favorite lyric was ‘Hindi Siya yanig sa iyong galit.’ Sometimes we think that we can never ask God why things happen. God showed to me that He is not like that. He is a good father. So keep asking; God will not shush you. The more you ask, the more He reveals Himself to you,” Yeng shared.

The song is released under Star Music, co-produced by CBN Asia’s music arm, Reverb Worship PH.

CBN Asia’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer John Valdes Tan said, “Reverb Worship PH has gone into a co-production agreement with Star Music to produce inspirational songs and our newest offering is called Kumapit. I believe that everyone who listens to Kumapit will be blessed by God through its beautiful melody and words of hope and grace.”

Pre-save “Kumapit” by Yeng Constantino today and stream the song on June 11, on Spotify, Apple, Deezer, and YouTube. Follow Reverb Worship PH on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube for more updates.

5 Meaningful Ways to Strengthen Your Relationship with Your Mom

When you look at your mother, what do you see?

Do you see the world’s best chef, a genuine friend, or a great provider? Is she your cheerleader, teacher, and responsible housekeeper?

While all mothers wear many hats, one of the most important roles they play is to give their children nurturing love.

Thankfully, there are some things you can do to thank them for all the love and sacrifice they have done and eventually, keep your bond strong!

Coach and Beyond Small Talk host LA Mumar, son of actress Coney Reyes, shares 5 meaningful ways to help you strengthen and improve your relationship with your mother:

1. Keep your relationship God-centered

Oh, how good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! (Psalm 133:1)

A God-centered relationship with your mother means Jesus operates between the two of you. You speak and act with God’s love, joy, and kindness. It is a relationship where respect and grace abound.

“At the end of the day, we can have great relationships with one another despite our shortcomings, because we receive God’s love. We can share that love with our moms and with the people around us. I think that’s the most important part,” LA shared.

2. Do your best to understand one another

No one is perfect; people make mistakes – including your mother.

When all is said and done, you have the choice to forgive. Try to understand why they do what they do. Ask God to give you the power to see right through any differences and see your mother through the lens of love.

LA agrees, “Let’s have a deeper understanding of one another, let’s understand both ways. I am a son, and I am also a parent. Let’s love our parents and understand what they are going through.”

3. Communicate with each other

Good communication with your mother entails more than just talking. It is knowing when to talk when to listen, as well as what to say and how to say it.

Family Education suggests some points to keep in mind the next time you chat with your mom: respect her privacy and boundaries, listen objectively, and do not interrupt or use words that are accusatory.

4. Make a continuous effort to strengthen your relationship

As LA succinctly puts it, “Of course, this is a two-way street.”

Sometimes, it is not a lack of love that ruins relationships but a lack of effort. Thankfully, there are many ways to strengthen parent-child relationships, which means there are many ways to show constant love and appreciation to your mother!

5. Pray for God’s grace and strength to sustain you

The flesh and heart may fail, but God’s sustaining grace will hold you together.

This piece of truth comes in handy when you want to strengthen your relationship with your mother. Seek God and ask Him to give you a mouth that speaks life, hands that are gracious to comfort, and a heart that loves unconditionally.

“With the grace and strength God has given us, I am sure, relationships can flourish,” LA said.

Kumapit: 3 Steps to Help You Hold on to God during Hard Times

Kumapit: 3 Steps to Help You Hold on to God during Hard Times

Can you remember the trouble you once experienced that challenged your faith?

Surely, you can.

Trials and testing are part of life. Storms come and go. So now, the real question emerges: how can you respond to them?

Here are 3 steps that can help you hold on to God during hard times:

Kumapit: 3 Steps to Help You Hold on to God during Hard Times

1. Anchor yourself to God

It is easy to hold on to God when everything is good and happy. It is easy to trust God when life is steady. But what happens when storms come your way?

Sometimes, it could be challenging to pray and trust God – but these are the wisest things to do!

And if you pray and things don’t turn out the way you wanted, that doesn’t mean you should quit praying. That doesn’t mean God is not listening. God has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm (Nahum 1:3) and you need to anchor yourself to this truth.

So don’t stop praying! Don’t stop spending time with Jesus. Feed yourself with God’s Word and encouragement and trust His process.

Kumapit: 3 Steps to Help You Hold on to God during Hard Times

2. Check what weighs you down

What’s rocking your boat at this moment?

Is it bitterness? Is it anger or unforgiveness? Could it be envy, worry, and bad habits?

If you are already facing a huge problem, these negative habits and emotions would only add weight to your shoulders. Do not allow them to sink you down to hopelessness.

Remember, God has given you the power, the love, and self-discipline! (2 Timothy 1:6-7) Ask God to check your heart and cleanse you from whatever holds you down.

Kumapit: 3 Steps to Help You Hold on to God during Hard Times

3. Recalibrate your perspective

What kind of storm are you in right now?

Very honestly, there are storms that people bring to themselves. These storms either emerged out of bad decisions or disobedience (Proverbs 14:12). Then there are storms that you don’t invite. These troubles come even when you seek God.

Either way, God allows troubles for a purpose. Remember the storm that God’s disciples experienced?

“Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!” (Matthew 8:23-27 NIV)

They experienced a huge storm while they were following Jesus!

But if we are to see it from a bigger perspective, if they had not been in the storms, they would not have discovered God’s character.

Yes, the storms in your life will help you discover truths about Jesus – the truth that He will never leave you nor forsake you amid storms of life.

The truth is that He is a miracle-working God.
