Wondering How You Can Deliver Life-Saving Food to Tribal Communities?

Marinel Selvano of the Dumagat-Remontados tribe had high hopes for her children. She wanted them to grow up safe, happy, and healthy.

Sadly, all her dreams came crashing down when the pandemic hit the country.

Like most katutubos in General Nakar, Quezon, Marinel makes a living by planting crops of vegetables in her garden. She grows ginger in their backyard to sell.

Marinel lives up on the remote highlands of Sierra Madre and hikes for hours to reach their town proper so she could sell her harvest.

Due to movement restrictions, Marinel could not go to the town and sell their crops. The mother worried about how she could feed her children in the coming days.

“We are stuck in one place and we do not know what’s happening out there aside from what we see on TV and hear on the radio. We are scared and struggling to feed our children,” she shared.

And then came hope!

Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, visited their community in Barangay Lumutan in General Nakar, Quezon bringing with them life-saving food for the people of Marinel’s tribe.

Together with the Philippine Army and DLL-SAGAD Off-Roaders group, Operation Blessing crossed 14 rivers and hiked the steep mountains of Sierra Madre.

But the long and difficult trek was worth it – Marinel’s children and 200 katutubo families will now have food on their table in the coming days!

More than the material relief, the beneficiaries received words of encouragement and prayers from the team, giving them hope and strengthening their hearts.

“We already ran out of rice that’s why I am so happy that we received your food bags. It also warms my heart that there are people like you who would travel far and wide just to reach and help us,” Marinel said.

Send Hope and Relief to Our Typhoon-Affected Kababayans! Here’s How

Nothing – even the pandemic – can stop natural disasters from happening.

That is why nothing – even the pandemic – can stop Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, from reaching out to our affected kababayans!

Operation Blessing braved the strong winds, rising floods, and heavy rains brought by Typhoon Fabian to deliver hope and relief to indigenous families in Oriental Mindoro.

One of the beneficiaries is Popoy, a member of the Hanunuo Mangyan Tribe residing in the town of Mansalay.

Like many of our indigenous kababayans, Popoy had a rough past. As a young teen, he was led into joining an opposition group, believing that it would make his life better. Young, confused, and broken, Popoy did not realize the danger ahead of him.

“I thought joining a rebel group would be the best decision because I had nowhere to go, and I had nothing to do. I had a problem with my family, so I decided to join them, even though I was not sure what kind of group it was,” Popoy shared in vernacular.

Due to the rebellious nature of the group, Popoy had witnessed things no 14-year-old should witness. He lived in overwhelming fear until he finally decided to leave the group, in hopes of living a normal, peaceful life.

He confessed, “I felt bad for my wife and my child. I didn’t want to do it anymore. After everything that happened, I saw the way to embrace light and change for the better. I really hoped this was the start of our good life.”

However, Popoy found that starting a “good life” can be extremely difficult, especially in the middle of a pandemic and a calamity at the same time. Thankfully, he was listed as one of the beneficiaries of Operation Blessing’s livelihood assistance!

Through the help of the Armed Forces of the Philippines 4th Infantry Battalion and 203rd Brigade, Mansalay’s local government unit, and our church partner, Popoy and 43 other beneficiaries received much-needed farming tools and livelihood support.

Popoy can now support his family and start anew!

“I am very thankful to Operation Blessing. I have never seen this kind of generosity before. You are true to your word. These tools are necessary for our survival and it’s something that we can cherish for a lifetime,” Popoy ended.

You can help us help more!

Many communities are still recovering from the recent typhoon. Access to food, water, gas, and electricity remains challenging in many areas. With your help, we can alleviate their suffering.

Together, we can bring aid to families who are severely affected by Typhoon Fabian! Together, can send hope and relief to our kababayans!

Here’s How You are Helping a Father Walk Again!

Hours turned into days.

Days turned into weeks.

Weeks turned into months.

Francisco Armario spent nine months in his bed because of the debilitating pain on his legs. The last three months were the worst –he could not even move, do household chores, nor go to the bathroom on his own.

Above all these, Francisco’s livelihood suffered. His family could not afford to bring him to the hospital because they did not have money to pay for his medical bills.

“It was November 2020 when I first walked in pain. Months after, I cannot walk nor stand anymore; I am bedridden. As a father, it was so painful for me to see my family struggling,” Francisco lamented.

This is what happens when a member of a low-income family gets sick. And their difficulties are compounded by the present pandemic. They have to endure the pain while being cooped up in their own homes.

Waiting.

Wondering if they could ever get the medical treatment they need.

Francisco’s situation showed that anyone can experience health problems but not everyone can afford to get treatment. Healthcare becomes a privilege for our most vulnerable kababayans.

Thankfully, Franciso held on to hope.

“Because of my condition, I learned to pray to God more and seek Him wholeheartedly,” he shared.

Extremely worried about Francisco’s situation, his sister reached out to Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm. Francisco’s family’s prayers were answered when they received a response.

Operation Blessing visited Francisco and gave him free medical consultation and took care of his medication. Although he has yet to complete a series of checkups, he is now more hopeful and full of vigor.

“It is really a huge help for me and my family. I am very thankful to God for using Operation Blessing as an instrument of help and healing for me!” Francisco ended.

Because of your compassion and unwavering support to Operation Blessing, Francisco can walk again. Together, we continue to extend help to our vulnerable kababayans who urgently need medical assistance.

When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

Everyone is affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, but not all are affected in the same way.

Low-income families and communities in remote areas of our country are especially hit hard by the economic effects of the pandemic. Hunger and starvation are the bigger concerns for them, even more than the coronavirus.

When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

Day by day, food insecurity intensifies. Poor households plunge deeper into poverty. The most vulnerable among us become even more vulnerable and in need of emergency food assistance.

To give you a clearer picture, a survey of the Department of Science and Technology Food and Nutrition Research Institute revealed that 62% of households experienced having little to no food amid the pandemic.

This alarming data has confirmed the magnitude of the hunger emergency gripping our kababayans. And while you are reading this article, the numbers continue to rise.

Do you know that with your help, we can support our most vulnerable kababayans and ease their suffering?

When hunger knocks, we respond with much-needed relief and prayers!

The residents of Santa Maria, Laguna witnessed our response to their great need when CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, visited their community last weekend.

When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

Relief operations could not reach Santa Maria because of the community’s remote location. Residents needed to hike or ride horses for hours to reach the town proper. Children had to cross nine rivers every day just to go to school!

With the help of faithful partners like you and the DLL/SAGAD Off-Roaders group, the Operation Blessing team was able to brave the rough trails and heavy rains to get to Santa Maria!

When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

Hundreds of families received food items, hygiene kits, and cleaning materials. More than the material relief, the residents also had the opportunity to hear the comforting, saving love of Jesus through the team.

When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

“Everyone is struggling each day to survive. That’s why it is a huge blessing for them to receive this kind of help. They are very happy to be one of the beneficiaries of Operation Blessing,” shared Teacher Noel, one of the teachers who helped organize the relief operation.

When Hunger Knocks, We Respond with Much-Needed Relief and Prayers

Your generosity makes it possible for Operation Blessing to reach our most vulnerable kababayans and respond with much-needed relief and prayers. Do you want to bless more families in this time of need?

Sometimes, a warm meal can change a life. And through your continuous support, we can scale up our assistance of warm, healthy meals to undernourished children. Together, we can change their lives and give them hope that healthier days are ahead of them.

Through Your Help, Healthy Days are Ahead for Filipino Children!

Sometimes, a warm meal can change a life.

The 7-year-old Bernardo Ongcoy can attest to that.

Sometimes, a warm meal can change a life. The 7-year-old Bernardo Ongcoy can attest to that. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the little boy and his father would pick talbos ng kamote (sweet potato tops) from their backyard so they would have something to eat for the day. Life was already hard for Bernardo’s family. His father Romanito makes charcoal for a living, and no matter how much charcoal he makes, his income is not enough to cover their basic needs, let alone buy nutritious meals for his kids. “Sometimes we don’t even eat. Rainy days are the worst, because we wouldn't know where to get food. My wife and I are doing our best to provide for our son, but life is really hard for us,” Romanito said. Bernardo’s family belongs to the Dumagat tribe residing on the mountains of Puray in Rodriguez, Rizal. Their community’s location is far from better-paying job opportunities and other essential services. Because they could not afford healthier or even enough food, Bernardo and his brother Miguel became undernourished. “If my papa stops making charcoal, we would have nothing to eat. I get sickly whenever I am hungry,” Bernardo narrated. His mother Vilma hopes that one day, God will hear all her prayers and bless her beloved children. “I am sad about our condition. I would just pray, ‘God, please provide food for my children so that they won’t experience hunger anymore,’” Vilma lamented. They were already struggling to survive each passing day, and as soon as the pandemic razed the country, it became even harder to know where their next meal is coming from. Thanks to you, Bernardo and his brother can enjoy warm, nutritious meals even during the pandemic! Through your partnership with Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, Bernardo and his fellow Dumagat kids receive support through the ministry’s Bless-a-Child program. Through Bless-a-Child, undernourished children like Bernardo enjoy healthy lunches every day, free medical checkup and medicines on a regular basis, as well as free primary education and values formation support. Their parents are also taught how to prepare nutritious yet budget-friendly meals for their children. “We are so grateful for Operation Blessing’s feeding program! My children are always full, their weight improved, and they are now more active,” his mother Vilma shared. Bernardo is now feeling happy, and full. Happy to know that there are people out there who care for them, and full because of the nutritious meals he enjoys every day! “We used to experience hunger, now we don't. Thank you so much for your help, Operation Blessing!” he said with a smile. Sometimes, a warm meal can change a life. And through your continuous support, we can scale up our assistance of warm, healthy meals to undernourished children. Together, we can change their lives and give them hope that healthier days are ahead of them. Do you want to continue your support to Filipino children in need? Is there Blessing in Giving?

Is there Blessing in Giving?

For pre-school teacher Sharon Pagang, the answer will always be a resounding yes.

Sharon first learned the value of giving from her parents. This lesson stayed with her as she grew up and had a family of her own.

Is there Blessing in Giving?

One evening, Sharon and her husband Jovenal chanced upon The 700 Club Asia. They saw the many struggling families helped through Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines (OB) and it touched their hearts. Without any hesitation, the couple heeded the call to help through giving.

Is there Blessing in Giving?

“My husband and I were encouraged by the stories of people who were touched by God’s faithfulness. That night, we decided to give to Operation Blessing,” Sharon recalled.

Like Sharon, do you long to give whenever you hear and witness the struggles of others?

It is easy to be a blessing to others when life is all good and easy, but what about when it’s hard? Barely a month after Sharon decided to bless others, she found out that she had kidney stones.

Worried and anxious about the possibility of a medical operation, she doubted if she was physically and financially ready for this challenge.

In the midst of her uncertainty, Sharon was reminded that God is her great healer. She decided to remain prayerful, faithful and committed to her calling.

“I told my husband that in spite of what we are going through, we will continue to help God’s ministry,” Sharon said.

Little did she know, she was up for a miracle.

Just weeks after she prayed, the kidney stones were flushed out of her body! It meant two things: she no longer needed a medical operation and she just received God’s miraculous healing.

Is there Blessing in Giving?

Sharon exclaimed, “Yes, Lord! We are forever grateful to You for Your healing touch.”

Exceedingly grateful for God’s faithfulness, Sharon’s generosity increased. She and her husband happily gave more than what they initially pledged to Operation Blessing.

Truly, God is the source of provision, healing, and life.

No one can ever outgive God, and Sharon’s story is wonderful proof of this fact. Blessings followed after Sharon and her husband blessed others with their giving. Business opportunities opened for their family; her husband was promoted to a managerial role.

And that’s not all. “We have been praying for a baby and because God is so faithful, He gave us one!” Sharon shared. “We are so happy and thankful, and we will never forget the outpour of blessings we received from Him.”

Is there Blessing in Giving?

Even in a pandemic, God’s divine sustenance never fails to amaze the couple. Sharon and Jovenal found God’s peace during these trying times – the ultimate blessing they receive whenever they give.

And if like them, you want to experience the blessing that comes from giving, the couple has a message for you:

“This pandemic is the time where we can show our gratitude to God. One way of showing how thankful we are is to give. Learn to share. Do not worry for tomorrow for we cannot fathom His plans for us.”

Here’s How You Saved a Construction Worker’s Family from Hunger and Hopelessness

Here’s How You Saved a Construction Worker’s Family from Hunger and Hopelessness

Life during the pandemic is not easy, especially when you are forced to leave the job that feeds your whole family.

This is what our Aeta brother Rudy Dela Cruz experienced.

Rudy belongs to a tribal community in Tayabas, Quezon, and found a job as a construction worker in Barangay Putingkahoy, in Rosario, Batangas. Nearing age 60, Rudy still endured the heavy labor, for very little pay.

Life was already hard for their indigent family, but as soon as the pandemic razed the country, the father of four had to stop doing construction work.

“When I stopped doing construction work, what I did was to scythe bamboos. It was the only way I get to feed my four children. Then this pandemic hit us hard and we cannot even buy canned sardines,” Rudy recalled.

Can you imagine what it means to not afford food for your children?

Rudy can. And he realized that life had gotten even harder than before. No matter how many bamboos he scythes in a day, it is never enough to buy food for the whole family.

“We have no choice but to depend on the assistance we can get from the government or other people,” he lamented. He felt hopeless wondering how he can feed his hungry children in the coming days.

Thanks to your partnership with Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, we can put an end to that.

Through your help, Rudy’s family, and many other residents of Rosario received much-needed food items. The team also prayed for the beneficiaries and encouraged hope among the families.

Rudy is grateful for the glimpse of hope you shared in the time he needed it most.

“This is a huge blessing to people like us who have no access to food because of the pandemic. Thank you so much for the timely response to our needs,” he said.

Rudy is just one of our many kababayans who live from day to day, hoping for more food tomorrow. Truly, the pandemic has affected our present situation, but we are not giving up on a better future!

clean water for kababayans

Your Giving Creates Ripples of Hope for Families through Clean Water!

Dirty, unsafe, and filled with diapers.

This is how Julie Francisco described the water that they get from a nearby river in their town in Rodriguez, Rizal.

Yet, they would still bathe in it, cook with it, and drink it because they have no choice.

Julie’s family and many other residents of the Sierra Madre do not have access to clean water because they live in a remote area. They have no choice but to drink the unfiltered water directly or boil it for the kids.

The dirty river is their only source of water, but when it became filled with garbage, the residents dug a small well near it – hoping that the water that comes from it would be safer to drink.

However, it did not change anything. No matter how many times they try to purify the yellowish liquid, their efforts seem pointless.

“As a parent, I can bear all these burdens, but I cannot stand seeing my children suffer like that,” Julie said, bursting into tears.

It is no wonder why Julie’s children always get sick. And when she brought her eldest to the hospital due to diarrhea, it was clear that the lack of clean, potable drinking water imposed great danger not just to their family, but to their whole community.

“That time, I could not think straight. I prayed, ‘Lord, please take care of us,’ because I know nothing is impossible with God. He is our only hope,” Julie shared.

Thanks to your faithful partnership with Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm, God answered Julie’s prayer.

When a well is drilled, lives change. This saying came to life when Operation Blessing visited their community in Rodriguez before the pandemic and built a well. For the first time, they can enjoy safe drinking water!

During the pandemic, Julie and her neighbors do not have to worry about getting sick because of dirty water. Her children do not get sick anymore.

She overflowed with joy and thanksgiving, believing that God helped them get access to clean water through the generous hearts of Operation Blessing partners.

“You gave us hope! Now, we can fetch water that is safe to use in our household. My children don’t get confined in hospitals due to diarrhea, not anymore,” Julie said.

She continued, “You still reached us even though we live far from you. This well is a huge help. Thank you so much, Operation Blessing!”
